Chingay in Penang

CHINGAY PROCESSION is regarded by other news media, as it is taken from the Chinese dialect Hokkien "chin yi" (精艺) in pronunciation, which means true art.

In the past, Chingay procession was held in celebration with the birthdays of the Chinese deities or the procession of the Goddess of Mercy ( Guanyin ), its purpose was to worship and enjoy with the deity. During the earliest procession in more than 100 years ago, the earliest English newspapers Echo ( had stopped publication ) adopted the word CHINGAY PROCESSION for this special event.

Penang Chingay is a unique characteristic civil organization, it is also a traditional Chinese culture which the Chinese society is proud of, it spreads among the ethnic Chinese community and lasts forever.
